Obituary of Caleb E.- Leupold

Caleb Leupold was born April 28, 1986, and lived nearly 35 adventurous, loving, and fulfilling years. He was taken from us suddenly on March 8, 2021. Caleb was the oldest of four siblings and was looked up to by the motley crew as a natural-born leader in adventures and fun. His sense of humor kept everyone on their toes. We never knew when he might turn a phrase or insert a joke to keep us laughing. He had a special rapport with his youngest brother; they would banter back and forth, leaving everyone else in the dust, scratching their heads and laughing.

Caleb was intensely interested in life and was curious about many subjects, researching and reading to gain understanding and then mastering the topic. He cared deeply about others and delighted in helping, whether they were family or a stranger. Caleb loved Jesus and wasn’t afraid to question and explore his faith, knowing that God would answer with love and truth. He now knows his savior intimately, and sees Him face-to-face; all his questions have been answered.

Caleb was engaged to the love of his life, Sarah Van Etten, and they planned their wedding for later this summer. Caleb and Sarah shared a fiercely dedicated love and a magnetic connection that was admired by all who knew them. They were an amazing team, a united front, and a source of joy and healing in each other's lives. They had numerous hiking adventures together, sometimes every weekend. The pandemic gave them a chance to hike nearly every day and explore together. They hiked popular spots, as well as remote and spectacular areas. They also enjoyed riding long boards, and while Sarah introduced Caleb to the sport, he quickly passed her in skill and speed.

His adventures continued with culinary talents, where he was renowned for his plate-lickingly delectable fettucine Alfredo, expertly grilled steaks and hamburgers, and other scrumptious dishes. He enjoyed finding unusual recipes and surprising us with new flavors to enjoy, such as sautéed cucumbers. He inspired us all to become more adventurous as cooks; as a result, we all use a lot more butter than we used to!

Caleb dearly loved his nieces and nephews, who in turn absolutely adored their uncle. He loved reading to them, teaching them rock climbing, playing in the park, and getting on the floor to roughhouse. He always had time to help them construct Lego sets, build roads in kinetic sand, and just join in their imaginative play. He was looking forward to more adventures as they matured, and having children of his own.

He had a large and growing circle of friends and acquaintances. Longtime, cherished friends and new friends, who were quickly welcomed and embraced. He was generous and kind with all. We shall never see his like again.

Caleb was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Dixie Hyde; his paternal grandfather, William Leupold; and stepmother, Dana Murphy Leupold. He is survived by his fiancée, Sarah Van Etten; mother, Elizabeth Hyde; father, Martin Leupold; sister, Hannah Bison (Shane) [nephew, Blade, nieces, Esther, Selah, and Betty]; sister, Lydia Leupold (Aaron Akimoff); brother, Silas Leupold (Emily) [nephew, Gideon]; half-brother, Daniel Leupold; stepbrother, Joshua Murphy; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
