Obituary of Norah Boland Perez

Norah Perez left this earth just before noon on March 10, 2021, at the age of 84. She passed on her own terms, just as she lived her life, as she saw fit.

Honora Boland “Norah” Perez was born December 8, 1936, to John and Helen “Nellie” Boland. Spending her first 27 years in Scotland, she was a rock climber, swimming instructor, sharp shooter, served in the British Navy Reserves, and always had a full dance card when she went out dancing with her girlfriends.

In 1964, she came to America to visit her cousin, Sally, in Hartford, Connecticut, and attend the World’s Fair in New York, where she met the love of her life, Carlos Perez (or Tony as he introduced himself). Within a few weeks, they got married and started their lives together in New London, Connecticut, then San Antonio, Texas, where they started their family and she obtained her U.S. citizenship. They moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1982, where she earned an MA degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.  They retired to Washington State in 1992, where they owned a small business and attended the RSE School.

Norah was brave, audacious, confident, beautiful and one-of-a-kind. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carlos; her sons, John (Sylvia) and Paul (Laura); her daughters, Heather and Helma (Don); her seven grandchildren; and countless family and friends who were lucky enough to have met or to have known her. She will be celebrated every day, but, hopefully, a Celebration of Life will be held early summer, pending restrictions.
