Obituary of Almyra Dahl Keena

Almyra Keena, 92, of Yelm, Washington, died on December 25, 2020, at the Acute Care Center in Auburn, Washington.

Almyra Beatrice Dahl was born on November 25, 1928, in Grafton, North Dakota, to Helmer and Alvina (Dammen) Dahl.   She was raised, along with her sister, Norma, on their farm in rural Grafton.  After she completed her public education, she became a hairdresser, an occupation that she enjoyed and worked at until retirement.

She married Jack Keena in 1954 and they lived in North Dakota until 1969, when they moved to Renton, Washington.   She operated the hair salon in the retirement center on Mercer Island and worked there until she retired.    She and Jack continued to live in Renton until 1992, when they moved to Yelm to be closer to their family.  Jack died in 2010 and Almyra resided in assisted living in Yelm until her health made it necessary to transfer to the Acute Care Center in Auburn in 2019.

The Keena home was a welcoming place for many family and friends over the years.  The door was always open and all were welcome.  Almyra was known as a great hostess and cook, excelling at her lefse making, something she and Jack often did together.  Her hospitality and generosity had no limits.    She loved children and always had a supply of games to play with them.  She and Jack loved to entertain and did so often.   Camping was another love of both Almyra and Jack.  They traveled far and wide in their RV, making trips to Canada, Alaska, and many other destinations in the U.S.  Their travels also included a trip to Norway, trips to Mexico, and an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Almyra is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Keena, of Auburn; sister, Norma (Tom) Padgett of Pacific; five grandchildren, Myra Shearer,  James, Trent and Travis Keena, and Gregg Jackson; nine grandchildren, Jace Lavender, Jillian Shearer, Braylee, Tru and Liliana Keena, Kysa, Kayden, Kayleb and Kaysia Jackson; and  many nieces, nephews and cousins.   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; and sons, Gary and John.

Almyra had a multitude of very dear friends and was loved by everyone who was blessed to know her.

A celebration of Almyra's life will be held when conditions allow.
