Thoughts and prayers going out to you Kim and family. I have fond memories riding with Jeff at Whistler and in Capitol Forest. Such a great man.
Much love,

Jeff "The Professor" Haymes. Jeff was one the most interesting people I have ever met, and possessed a serious depth of knowledge in almost any subject that quickly earned him the title of "The Professor" among our group of friends. Jeff's enthusiasm and energy was contagious and uncontainable. From non-stop wet winter bike rides in Capitol Forest to day trips to the Whistler Bike Park - and he would offer to drive! I also really enjoyed Jeff for being non-political and a first principles minded person. Just the facts. None of the dramatics. A generous and great friend.

Jeff and I met thru mountain bike racing and quickly became friends. When we met we were both new to the racing scene and trying to figure things out. So we developed a friendship around the sport and tried to support each other as we learned together. We were both kinda nerdy so we connected around our interests in science, tech, gadgets and especially bikes. Last time I saw him he wanted to know a bunch of details about the bikes I am riding now! We were in quite a few mountain bike events together and Jeff had a real passion for racing but we also did a lot riding together just for fun. Jeff was always super positive. When the racing was tough he would persevere. When we went out to ride in lousy weather he would tough it out with a smile on his face. He just loved to ride and pursued that passion with energy and enthusiasm. I loved that about Jeff - his enthusiasm for riding was contagious. So how do you react when the sport you love deals you the worst blow imaginable? If you are Jeff then you keep your positive attitude and deal. I'm not sure I could have done that but Jeff did it - he kept his positive attitude. That's just the way he was. Positive, looking forward, persevering. I'm thankful for all the memories I have of riding with Jeff but the one big thing I'll always remember is that positive attitude. That is the big gift that Jeff gave me - setting an example of how to be positive no matter what and keep moving forward. Thank you Jeff for that and thank you for being a friend - you will be remembered.

Jeff and I started working for WDFW at around the same time. We both worked for the Fish Program and our professional lives would often converge.
Jeff enjoyed life. He was good at his job, but also had many interests and hobbies outside of work.
Curiously, I got to know Jeff even better after his injury and this is where I realized how truly amazing he was. Jeff and Kim never complained about their lot in life. He was always full of enthusiasm. This seems hard to believe given his circumstances, but he didn't just put on a happy face for me. One of his care-givers also confirmed that Jeff and Kim had this amazing relationship where they would just roll with the punches, but still enjoy life. Jeff made me feel comfortable in his presence, because he didn't judge. He expected a certain amount of discomfort and frankly awkward behavior from visitors. Yet, he never let it get weird and within minutes you felt very at easy and engaged around him.
I learnt a lot from Jeff that I hope to carry with me when things get tough in life.
Miss you very much my friend.

I got to know Jeff about 20 years ago through working with him at the Department. We had a lot of shared interests in fish science, music, photography, and coffee. When Jeff and I worked together on the 6th floor he could reguluarly be seen geeking out on spreadsheets or debating the latest run reconstruction inputs to come up with the best forecast for the upcoming north of falcon season. I could set my clock by our trips down to Starbucks pretty much daily, with an occasional lunch at Happy-T for some Yakisoba. I can thank Jeff for a lot of things, the least of which was working through a 20 thousand line excel spreadsheet he built to estimate sockeye returns at Lake Washington or perhaps a highlight would be road trips to the coast to meet with the Makahs to talk Sockeye or even better yet - Coho surveys on the Skokomish. As many others can attest to, Jeff was a constant optimist. Even over the past several years since the accident when most others would have given up. This guy had an uncanny ability to remain positive. Thank you Jeff! Thank you for the time we had and the example you shared with all of us to not give up and to keep going, no matter what! You will be missed and thank you for the years of your contributions to fish management in Washington.

I very much enjoyed working and fishing with Jeff in Forks Washington and he helped shape my future in fisheries. We became close friends and he taught me a lot about science and fishing! Jeff was the type of guy that would do anything for you and loved talking about all his cool interests. You will be missed!

I knew Jeff, but briefly. He will always be at the top of my list for DFW bios who were willing to work with Tribes. No politics, just what is right for the fish. Wish I had known more about his love of sci-fi.
Jeff, we will always hold you in the highest regard.
Peace to all

Jeff was a great brother, great husband to his wonderful wife Kim, and all-around good guy. We spent some great times fishing and snowboarding together - these were the times I remember as getting to spend quality time with him as adults. He was one of the few people I can say was a really good person, something that anyone who knew him would agree. His wife Kim was an angel and their marriage was a special bond, their love creating a relationship that few will have the blessing of in this life.
I hope he is somewhere reunited with our parents and catching many fish!
Goodbye, until we are all reunited.
He will be missed.
