Lon Pettitt

Obituary of Lon Steve Pettitt

Following his time in the Marines and college, Lon spent 12 years with the Boeing Company in Seattle, New York and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  After moving to Mason Lake and tiring of the commute to Seattle, he secured a position at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, where he worked for 23 years.  He retired in 1991.

When his children were young, Lon was a 4-H leader.  Later in life, he became a member the MBC club, where he thoroughly enjoyed many work parties and social events.  Lon was a skilled sailor and a fierce competitor, racing his sailboat “Apache” to many wins. He was also a founding member and the first commodore of West Sound Corinthian Yacht Club. Sailing eventually gave way to RVs and motorhomes and many years of traveling.

Lon was a talented designer, engineer and carpenter.  He started with a forested lot and built the family home from nothing to what it is today.  Lon eventually started restoring cars and trucks and spent many joyful hours in his beloved garage.  He will be missed by all who knew him.
