Obituary of Carolyn Jean Werner

Carolyn Jean Werner passed away at the age of 86 on October 10, 2020, in Olympia, Washington.  She was born September 17, 1934, to Mable McCann in Seattle, Washington. Her mother passed away two years later and Carolyn was adopted by Ruth Larson.  A 48-year resident of Lacey, Washington, Carolyn also lived in Wenatchee, Washington; San Diego, California; Texas; Germany; and Georgia.

She graduated from Seattle’s Lincoln High School in 1952.  Professionally, Carolyn was a bond underwriter for Hartford Insurance in California, a licensed real estate agent in the Olympia area, and last worked for Washington State DSHS until retirement. She was a member of Evergreen Christian Community.

Carolyn married Cameron R. Hoff in the Seattle Navy Chapel on October 8, 1956. She became a military wife and mother of two sons.  When Cameron unexpectedly passed away May 10, 1967, she found and married her high school sweetheart, Fred “Skip” Werner, later that year in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had 35 wonderful years together until Skip passed away in December 2002.  Later, Carolyn met Dave Hoff and they enjoyed a happy, committed relationship until his passing in September 2015.

Carolyn was fun-loving, caring, kind and generous.  She really “came out of her shell” when she got into square dancing and was a member of the Lacey Daisies for over 25 years.  She also enjoyed sewing, traveling, snow skiing, water skiing, camping and fishing. In her late teens, she even did some modeling and drove a race car.

Carolyn was loved by so many people whose lives she touched.  She is survived by her two sons, Lawrence Hoff (Barbara) and Charles Hoff (Marcia); three grandchildren, Jennifer Naipo, Breanna Hoff and Stephanie Goodey; and two great grandchildren, Kealani and Kainoa Naipo.  She was predeceased by her adoptive mother, Ruth Larson, and grandparents, Olaf Gust Bjork and Anna Oslund Bjork.

Donations in Carolyn’s honor may be made to the Olympia Union Gospel Mission or Salvation Army.
