Obituary of Billy W. Pettitt

Billy W. “Bill” Pettitt, a 50-year resident of Grapeview, Washington, passed away August 9, 2020 in Shelton, Washington.  He was born October 1, 1932 to Andy Z. Pettitt and Eula Marguerite (Roush) Pettitt in Redmond, Washington.  

 

Bill graduated from South Kitsap High School with the Class of 1950.  He joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as a jet engine mechanic from 1951 to 1971, including during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He married Jeraldine “Jeri” Jamerson on August 9, 1958, in Tacoma, Washington.

 

After retiring from the military, Bill worked at Lumbermens in Shelton from 1973 to 1990, retiring as store manager.  He was a member of the Mason Benson Club and Yesteryear Car Club.

 

Bill was very gregarious.  He liked to tell jokes.  He also liked to take care of people, volunteering at the MBC Club.  He enjoyed playing pinochle and was very competitive.  He also liked fishing, hunting, reading, vintage cars, carpentry, and woodworking.  He built their house at the lake in the 1970s, and also constructed birdhouses.  He liked his dogs, which were mostly boxers.

 

Bill is survived by his wife, Jeraldine “Jeri” Pettitt; brothers, Lon (Patricia) Pettitt, John Robert (Dolores) Pettitt, and George (Marcia) Pettitt; and nieces, Judy (Larry) Hurley, Carissa (Mackenzie) Masuda, and Brittani (Robin) Stevens; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Don R. Pettitt, Richard Z. Pettitt, Roger A. Pettitt, Barbara L. (Pettitt) Turner, Patricia A. (Pettitt) Williams, and Janet E. (Pettitt) Reopelle.

 

Interment was at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA 98042.
