When I started work at Snohomish County in 1981, I met Jim in the Auditor’s office, while collecting School District maps. I thought we had met before. Eventually we found out that we had mutual friends in Seattle from our University of Washington days in the 1970's.
In the 1980's he was one of the county's first applications programmers. He designed and implemented new programs for elections tabulating and reporting, and developed the Auditor’s first internal office local area network. His friendship and help through those years on the job really made a difference, to myself and many others.
Jim and I both enjoyed classic rock, and sometimes he would hear me at various local gigs. Over the years, we went to concerts, tribute band shows, and several games, including the Everett Giants, the Mariners and Seahawks.
Farewell to a great friend. Sail on, my brother.

Great Photo. I first came to know Jim when he worked for Planning and Development Services. He was our "can do anyhing with a computer guy" and was so patient with those of us that weren't so "computer literate". We talked cars, music and travel. Am so going to miss the sideways glance and grin. Jim was so patient, kind, quietly funny and just a nice guy. We used to joke during fire drills we should all just head to his place because it was right across the street from work. Jim has been missed each day in our dept. after he quietly drifted into retirement. Peace to you Jim. Love and wonderful memories to your family.

I had the good fortune to have Jim as a friend for over 40 years. Jim was a good musician and a great photographer with a artistic eye. When my wife and I married he played with me at our wedding, one of the two songs he wrote. Over the years we played a lot of music, went of many hikes and did a few ski trips together. I talked to him just two or three weeks ago and although he was pretty much sequestered in his apartment he was in pretty good spirits. Jim was a good friend and I will miss him.

R.I.P. my friend Jim Powers. I am remembering our fun times working at the Auditor's office back in the late 70's. There were 3 of us that formed the "Under 30" Club as we were so cool! We skied and partied together too. You introduced us to the band "Allies" and we saw them perform "Emma Peele" down in Seattle, plus oodles of other local bands. The last we texted you were talking about taking a road trip to Arizona and I was excited at the hope of a meet up! The James Taylor song "Fire and Rain" is flooding my head at the thought of never seeing you again. Sending thoughts and prayers to your sister and family. Bye "Jimmy Baby" !

I worked with Jim for many many years starting in 1977 at Snohomish County. I considered him a dear friend and colleague. Hear my prayer for him and his family. Patty Goins.
