Obituary of Allan Ross Gustin

On December 1, 1938, Allan Ross Gustin 81, was born to Clifford and Irma Gustin in Olympia, Washington.  Allan went to be with the Lord February 24, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Some of Allan's fondest memories are of living on the Cedar Flats Road while going to McLane Elementary School.  His family had a few farm animals, which he loved caring for.  Allan had fun swimming and fishing in Swift Creek.  He reminisced about being snowed in for about a month one winter and the neighbors helping each other by sharing meat and dairy products.

His father was in the Army and, during his high school years, they moved to Japan to live on a base.  Allan attended Narimasu High School.  He enjoyed a close-knit group of friends and fun activities in the youth club.  Allan had the opportunity to tour the area and meet wonderful people as he traveled around the country.  It was a great experience.

Allan joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and was assigned to the U.S.S. Hancook aircraft carrier, and worked on the flight deck.  He traveled to many ports in the Pacific, such as Hawaii, Philippines, Guam and Japan.

In 1960, Allan met Tamra Holmes and they married in 1961.  They later were blessed with two sons, Nick and Tory.  Through the years, they lived in Seattle, Bainbridge Island, Seabeck and Olympia.

In 1964, Allan went to visit with a pastor and ask him questions about God.  The pastor shared a portion from John 3 about Nicodemus talking to Jesus about being born again.  Allan made a decision to accept Christ as his Savior that day and experienced a peace and joy he had never known.  Allan began to read the Bible and walk with the Lord.

In 1965, Allan and Tamra moved to San Francisco so Allan could attend Simpson Bible College.  It was a great experience and they made some lasting friendships and great memories.

In 1969, Allan joined the Seattle Police Department.  He worked in patrol and taught at the firing range.  Allan retired in 1977 from a disability.  After retirement, he pastored Christ's Island Church on Bainbridge Island for about five years.

Allan lived at Fieldstone Memory Care facility for the last year.  He was loved and well cared for by the staff.  He will be missed by the caregivers and residents there.

Allan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Tamra; his sons, Nicholas/Lee, Tory/Angela and Roman/LeeAnne; grandchildren, Blake, Riley, Addison and Benjamin; brother, Kipton; sister, Susan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
