So very sorry to hear of the loss of Tom. I met him as a student at The Thurston County Off Campus Secondary School in 1976/77. He was a great teacher & friend. There were many school history cycling trips, and he graciously let us stay at both the cabin on the lake at Grapeview, where he enjoyed a very early cold dip. Days on the road cycling, including around the San Juans. He was an incredibly interesting person, his engaging grin, his eyes mischievously glinting behind his fringe. He always has a smile, or a kind word for everyone, truly one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. My condolences to all his family and friends on the loss of his beautiful light.

Tom and I met, I believe, while being members of an Allies of Parents co-counseling support group back in the last 70s. His particular deep love and commitment to young people (children) AND to those gifted with the very challenging daily task of shepherding and protecting them was stellar. At times he was the only person volunteering to provide childcare at events so parents could have a chance to get support themselves or participate in social/poliitical activities. His seeming unconditional love was certainly a model for all of us. I've been lucky enough to have him in my life more and more over the last ten years, for which I am grateful. He definitely brought out my better half. His birthday is April 12th, and he admitted to me once that he liked it when people reached out or showed they remembered that, so on April 12th, you might honor and remember how lucky we are that this wonderful man was born and was on this earth while we were. Thanks Lillis and Neal.

Tim and family,
What a shock to learn of Tom's passing - I wish I knew the perfect words to comfort those hearts...but something tells me there aren't any. I got to know your brother during his Crisis Clinic days, when they hired me in 1979. In 2015 I moved back into his neighborhood. In fact, 3 "retired" Crisis Clinic folks shared the same block...he got kind of a kick out of that & loved reminding me of it. I'll always remember him working hard to find the best issue, topic, campaign, etc. that would make the connection he was hoping to have with you. My heart goes out to you all.

My sincere condolences to all the Nogler family. Tom was a terrific person, enthusiastic advocate and loyal Democrat and Union member. We worked together for over 30 years on various Thurston Co. Democratic campaigns - candidates and issues - and his presence is greatly missed in our communities, all of Thurston County. Jon W. Halvorson, former Mayor of Lacey

Tom and I worked together on electric power issues for decades. He was always committed to the public interest, and worked tirelessly for a cleaner and more just power system. I was involved in the initial acquisition of Casa de Nada, his home, and a terrific story in its own right. It's sad to lose such a great public-spirited stalwart.

Tom and family were highly regarded by our Smith family (late Don, late Dorothy, Lola, Glenn, late Ralph, Susan and Lorna) growing up and over the years. Hurrah for Noglers! I was a year ahead of Tom in school but connected and was always inspired by his progressiveness, his love of nature and his care for fellow humans on this wonderful earth for our very short precious time of our lives.Tom and especially my late mother Dorothy Smith were activists for peace, hunger, homeless, LGBTQ and down trodden.
Tom and his brothers planted a number of acres of fir trees in what used to be our family pastures for sheep and cattle. About 20+ years ago when the folks could no longer care for animals it made sense to grow trees instead. With over two miles of trail through those woods that I still walk nearly daily, I often think of Tom and his brothers carefully planting the wonderful trees. Within the last couple months, Tom called me to ask if my mother Dorothy would join in some activist work so I filled him in on her being gone and we caught up. I told him I had just wandered through his trees and it was great to connect and remember with Tom the sharing and good times. I can only imagine Tom did not know how soon he would be able to talk to Dorothy again.
Bless you Tom! FIR awl,
Country Lorna Smith

Tom Nogler was a kind good soul. When one was with him, he really looked at you and made you feel like he accepted you and was sincerely interested in you. Few people have that special ability to reach out and care about someone without judgement. He will be greatly missed.

I was shocked, to hear the sad news that you have lost Tom.
It was hard to believe, because he always seemed so happy, and, so full of life. Tom had his own ideas, and, talents.
I remember a wonderful evening, in Olympia, when Tom, Tim, and, Jeff were all together... Lilis was leading everyone in song.
Tom had a wonderful voice, and, was obviously very talented. Nieces and Nephew were in awe of the beautiful music.
He was obviously devoted to his parents, and, was loved by his family.
Tom will be missed, but, he wanted for nothing, as good will was all around him, and, was well deserved.
Condolences to the family, and, to Tom's many friends.
Nancy and Jennifer Mahler

Thomas thank you for showing me by example how to slow down and really delight in the moment of being with friends. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment we have spent together over the years. I'll dearly miss your long convoluted explanations packed with thoughtful, insightful, observations to my simplest of questions. We are all much better persons for having been part of your circle of family and friends.
