Obituary of Patrick Charles Hauert

Patrick Charles Hauert passed away December 29, 2019 in Olympia, Washington.  He was born November 6, 1941 to Louis and Elizabeth Hauert in Peotone, Illinois.  A 25-year resident of the Olympia area, he also lived in Oak Harbor, Washington, and various other locations while on U.S. Navy assignments.

 

Pat graduated in 1959 from Herscher High School in Illinois; in 1964 from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana; and in 1973 from Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1994.  He was a Naval Aviator and rose to the rank of Captain.  His tenure included combat deployments in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars, as well as other sea deployments and shore based assignments.  Over his 30 years, he had command of a Fleet Attack Squadron, a Fleet Attack Training Squadron, and a Carrier Air Group.

 

In 1962, Pat married Carol Jean Torbet in Kankakee, Illinois.  He was a fantastic family man.  He also was a great mathematician, trivia expert, and sports fan, especially of the Seahawks and Mariners.

 

Pat is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Torbet Hauert; son, Douglas of Westminster, Maryland and his wife, Jen Tanner; daughters, Elizabeth Eerkes of Tumwater, Washington, and Patricia Maxwell and her husband, Jordan of Lakewood, Washington; grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Eerkes of Tumwater; sister, Ellen Emling and husband, David of Herscher, Illinois and brother Timothy Hauert and his wife, Paula of Kankakee, Illinois.  He was predeceased by his father, Louis Hauert; mother, Elizabeth Devereaux Hauert; and brothers, Michael and Douglas Hauert.

 

Service with military honors will be held Friday, January 31, 2020, 11:30 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Washington. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, 2pm at Woodland Retirement Home, 4532 Intelco Loop SE, Lacey, WA.
