Obituary of John K. Tobosa

John K. Tobosa passed away after a short battle with cancer on November 21, 2019 in Olympia, Washington, his home of 30 years. He was born July 4, 1948 to Ruperto “Pete” Tobosa and Sumiko “Molly” Tobosa in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Over the years, he also lived in Red Bluff, California, and Wenatchee, Washington.

John graduated from Franklin Pierce High School, and earned an Associate’s Degree from Tacoma Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Washington State University in 1975. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and was part of the U.S. Army Security Agency, serving in Germany and Vietnam.  He was a life member of VFW Post 318.

John married Jacalyn on December 10, 1989 in Red Bluff, California. Professionally, he worked 20 years with the USDA Farmers Home Administration, starting as an Assistant County Supervisor and retiring as a Chief of the Agency.  After retiring, he worked for Twin Star Credit Union as a loan administrator.

John’s passion was sports; he loved to watch all WSU Cougar sports, Mariners and Seahawks, even though it might be a rebuilding year!  He also could watch soccer 24/7; it didn’t matter what country or language was being spoken.  He loved his cultural Hawaiian food, sharing the tastes he grew up with with family and friends.

John was a loving soul.  He lived his life to the fullest, even after suffering a hemoragic stroke in 2007.  He lived with the Aloha Spirit until his death.  He always thought music was the key to happiness by soothing our souls and bringing people together.

He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn; son, Michael Tobosa; daughters, Joanna Tobosa and Erin Tobosa; stepsons, Aaron Groppi, and Chase Groppi; stepdaughters, Jolie Woods and Kimberly Spada; four grandchildren; and brothers, Rupert Tobosa and Patrick Tobosa, both of Texas.  He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Marvin Tobosa.

Special thanks to his doctors and nurses at Providence St. Peter Hospital for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019, 11:30 a.m. at VFW Post 318, 2902 Martin Way East, Olympia, WA 98506.  His final resting place will be Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
