Obituary of Marvin Cox

Marvin “Tony” Cox passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at Providence Hospital in Centralia, Wash. on October 11, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Anderson, Ind. on November 13, 1929 to Harold and Alice Cox.

Marvin leaves behind his wife of 11 years, Carolyn; son, Jeff Cox (Sandy Sugerman) of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Karen Zierer and Nedra Landaker of Anderson, Ind.; brother, Pierre Cox of Port Richey, Fla.; sister-in- law, Jo Ann Dunn; and step-children, Greg (Marilyn) Schmitt, Debbie (Doug) French, Denise (Tom) Whisnant and Don (Lori) Schmitt.  He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his late wife of 53 years, Mertie; sisters, Clarice and Nila; brothers, Harold and Donald; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Conklin.

Marvin lived most of his life in Denver, retiring in 1987 from the U.S. Postal Service after a lengthy career.  He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and Air Force.  After the death of his first wife, Mertie, in 2007, he relocated to Washington State.

When he lived in Denver, he was involved in their local square dance organization and was a caller, and then took a fancy to ballroom dancing in Washington.   Marvin enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos and spending time with friends and family. He loved a good western, either on TV or a book, and never hesitated to enter a political conversation.

Per Marvin’s request, there will be no services.  He will be laid to rest at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis, Wash.
