When I first met the man, I was immediately comfortable with him. He had the calm compassionate demeanor that everyone's going to remember as a grandpa figure. For a man to absorb all the negative energy this world has to offer. He was the epitome of understanding and forgiving. Out of the blue today I thought on him. A few minutes later I recalled his name and googled him. I'm sad because this world lost a light. But I know his soul isn't done. He will be back burn brighter then ever sharing what it means to be a good person.
I'll always remember how much kindness he shared in his eyes. Nobody will probably know who I am reading this. But I promise you this. It was his kindness that opened me up to learning how much kindness changes people. I'm living proof if this.
His story he once told me about why he decided to become a state patrolman was nothing less then perfect in describing who he woke up every day trying to embody. Forgiveness breeds a higher level of virtue. He was street racing as a kid. And the state trooper who pulled him over didn't even write him a ticket. He said that man's forgiveness and kindness left such an impression on him that he wanted to be just like him. So he signed up for the academy.
It was that unnamed state patrol who took someone. A good kid. Who wasn't doing good at the time. And turned his life around. And that little bit of light he shared with bud. Became something enormous. Bud was a great man. Spent the vast majority if his life helping people. Sharing his stories and teaching his life lessons to the less fortunate. And only God and Bud will know this. The amount of good that he was capable of doing. And the amount of people he helped become better men because of it. He completely changed my perspective on law enforcement. There are great men working the service. I don't think it has anything to do with what's right or wrong. I think for these few brave compassionate and loving people. It has something to do with coming into contact every day with the outcasts of society and that there's opportunity to shine that light they might see elsewhere. Bud no exception.
Love you bud
Mike - the guy who was speeding and you told me that story as your amnesty to me!

Bud helped a few clients of mine professionally. He was kind, gracious, and very professional. I did not know him in a personal capacity, but I doubt this would have been different. RIP Bud. You were appreciated.

I was my uncle buddy's “movie star” every time. I saw him normally going to lunch at the casino he would greet me with the biggest hug and, "there is my movie star”. It was the best greeting I ever received in my life, every time!!! I love you uncle buddy!!!!

I don't know anyone who didn't love Bud - even the offenders who were being polygraphed! Every time he entered a DOC field office he came loaded with donuts and much needed laughter. He totally loved his family and his job. There is no better way to live in and leave this world. RIP Bud. You will be missed.

Bud was a great guy. Didn't matter to me where I seen him I always got excited to talk to him. He was a remarkable human being. Not because of all his accomplishments . Or anything in particular. Other then he had the most gentle nature and when you met him. You have to instantly trust him. His compassion spoke loudly in his eyes. his personal conviction was to help people. When I ran into him years later. He smiled i Remember him. How could I forget someone I want to be like. All love

I loved Bud. He was a kind and gracious man. I saw him not that long ago outside of Heavenly Donuts in Lacey! He polygraphed lots of my caseload in the Tacoma DOC office. He had some unique ways of saying things. His good ol’ boy way of talking to the guys that got them to ‘fess up. He’d walk the guy to my office and say “Well Billy, go ahead and tell Lori about the drinkin’“ I know he loved to talk about both Eric and Christopher. He clearly loved his boys. God bless. I will keep the family in my prayers.
