My sincerest condolences on the passing of Spencer Seymour. I found it interesting I was not mentioned once and neither was Matt, we both loved Spencer like a brother and I knew Spencer since grade school. If possible, could whomever wrote the obituary add me to the memory of Spencer. Ricky Johansen, Jr. June 21, 2021

For Spencer:
Thank you for being my best friend over the last decade.
You have shown me remote sites in the world that no one has else has.
You have been a wonderful travel companion to all the many locations we visited...on jet planes, in your 4- wheel drive trucks and on foot climbing up a craggy ridge in the Cascades or fording a stream cutting across a rocky beach at Twin Rivers. You were quick with advice to keep me safe on climb. You have never been afraid to face a challenge and see it through to the end.
You have been an inspiration to go exploring, to be kind to people, to respect Nature. You have made a great impact on me and my family. Thank you from my heart for everything you brought into my life. Love, Ric & Diane & our Family

Had not seen Spencer for many years until a THS reunion in Sept. 2018. Seeing and talking to "Spence" was one of the best personal reunions for me. We talked alot about his Native American heritage. Being in the presence of his heart warming smile and beautiful heart was a gift. Happy Trails Spence, we will meet again.

Subject: To my best friend Spencer
Hi Spencer
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your trips to Timber Wolf….our ‘ritual’ as you well put it!
And the trip to Quartzite…and to Hot Springs in Arkansas….and all the trips to Dayton Quarry and Saddle Mountain and Toutle River and Lucky Strike and C Line and Greenline and Lincoln Quarry and Pink Quarry and other places and those places that have no official name. And Cispus Creek Quarry.
You have given my life great, wonderful adventures that no one else has even attempted to include me in.
How many people can do what you do….very very few is the answer!
You know how to drive a truck and keep your lane when crazy oncoming traffic gets into our lane. You can sense where the veins run and where the vugs are. You can still climb trees and de-limb them and top them and fall them onto a soda pop can place out on the grass as a target. You know history and traditions about Pac NW Indians and share that knowledge. You are one with the forests and animals that live in the forest and know how to stay out of danger.
You are a gifted speaker that can start a friendly conversation with a stranger and have a small crowed listening in a few minutes later.
You dive into computers and wage price wars on eBay and negotiate deals with Estate sellers and always seem to come out ahead on the money stack.
You put up with my antics and drive me to far off hospitals to get fingers stitched up from careless events on my part --- like at Timber Wolf.
Those are skills that very few people have…let alone ALL the skills that you possess.
You have made it through all kinds of women relationships, and survived the ordeals of alcohol and maintained being sober. You share personal things …the highs, the lows….the proud moments…the trauma to you heart….the questions about what to do in a dilemma…the answers you find after much thought or asking me or praying to God. You endure the physical pain that comes with injuries…but keep working your body while dismissing the hurt.
So I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate doing things with you. You are rich in experience in knowledge an adventure compared to so many other people. I know of no other person like you.
For the last year I have had out on the hot tub steps minerals and crystals and zeolites from our various trips we have taken in the last 12 months….Timber Wolf, Mt. Ida, Arkansas, and Quartzsite in AZ….letting the sun and rain and ice and snow clean them
Only a few people that we have over even catch sight of those sparkling gems….but that is Ok with me because our grandchildren, last time they visited, went over and began picking up the specimens and studying them. They too are inquisitive…and are fascinated by the glitter and sparkle of the crystal facets.
Caden, our 5 year old, he presented me a ‘crystal’ he found on the beach last Wednesday. It wasn’t really a crystal…but it was quartz pebble…and it was good enough for him to share with me. So he relates to what we do. Ava, our 4 year old grand daughter, does the same...with beach shells she proudly collects. They are fascinated by Nature and the gifts that are shared with us.
So Spencer….thank you from my heart. I am looking forward to next weekend’s trip….and I admit I am a bit nervous due to the risks…but that is what a good life is about. Taking risks while on adventure.
Diane says Hi…and she wishes us a good trip to. “Have a good time and stay safe”….she just told me to pass along to you.
With love,
Ric

Spence and my husband "Craig" are good friends. Spence and Craig spent many hours rock hounding and flint knapping. One day I came home from work, and Craig and Spence were happily painting some rooms in our home. He always had a smile and many stories to tell. There is something about Spence that I was very drawn to. I think he had a "gift" of making me feel at ease and very comfortable. He also saved our apple tree. One of the grafts fell off the tree and Spence came right over and took care of the tree. It is alive and abundant with apples. Every time I look out to the backyard I am reminded of what a gift it was for me to have met Spence. I love him.

My buddy, my best friend, my brother - Spencer Seymour. From 1964 to 2019, we were the best of friends; meeting regularly for coffee and visiting. From the McDonald’s in Tumwater to the Starbucks at Fred Meyers in Lacey; Spencer would tell us his rock collecting adventures, tree trimming adventures, his trips field collecting, bring his friend Matt and we would talk for hours. His stories and hobbies will forever be thought of and enjoyed. I miss my best friend and said my goodbyes on Facebook. Spencer was kind enough to involve me in his family gatherings; always felt honored and belonged. Thank you. Love you ...
