Jim is a colleague of mine from my time with Academy Mortgage Corporation. I served on the I.T. help desk and if my memory serves correctly he was in the Telecom side of Network support. In 3 and a half years of working there, we spoke rarely. He always treated me with respect and kindness. He was generous with his time and wisdom. I write this tribute today to share an experience that I had with him, after his departure from the temporal plane.
I was visited by Jim in a dream on July 28th, 2019. It is important to know that I have a method for cataloging my vast records of dreaming. Adding up the digits one by one and continuing until only a single digit remains, afterwards adding the suffix of the day of the week. Therefore, for the purposes of my records, July 28th, 2019 would be a 2,11,29 Sunday. This date July 28th, 2019 is the first with that signature since his departure.
What makes this so interesting is that his birthday of June 21, 1964 is also a 2,11,29 Sunday.
I was unaware of most of his background, namely his membership with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. But, also his Doctorate of philosophy in physics. I am a member of the same church and understand our deep devotion to genealogy.
This visit from Jim, in my dreams, shows me things about creation that I am still integrating into my understanding.
Love and blessings to you and your family, my friend,
-Taylor James Roth

I've had some good managers in my career, but Jim was still the best one I've ever had, and second place wasn't close. He made a tremendous impact in the year he served as Service Desk Director, and was an amazing mentoring resource for how to navigate murky waters in the corporate world.

Jim was such a great and dynamic man! He was a great friend and taught me so much! I'm in shock at this loss even though we haven't had much contact for the last few years. There are not words for the grief I am feeling. May his family feel the blessings of peace through this trying time. Much love to you, Jeannine!

Jim always cared about everyone. Whenever he saw me, he would stop and ask how I was doing, and sometimes my answer would be “I’ve had better days”
When I would say that Jim would be genuinely concerned and ask if I wanted to talk about what was bothering me in his office. No manager or director in my life has ever done. Jim was truly the best director I’ve ever worked for, and I don’t think anyone will ever come along that can live up to him.
He made all of us better. Not just better at our jobs, but better people completely. He fixed a broken department at work that was tearing away at itself. Everyone in the IT department at TrueBlue works together and communicates so much better ever since Jim came along. He will truly be missed by so many people.

I remember my first one on one with Jim, he didn't ask about my degrees, or my certifications, he asked about me, and my family. That is the kind of person Jim was. I used to tell my wife "our new Director Jim, is quite possibly the nicest person on the planet." :)
He went above and beyond for his people, and from what I know, his family as well, he would always stop to talk about family, or make a quick joke, or just to give kudos.
Jim's absence is greatly felt, and we have all lost a fantastic human being, mentor, and friend.
My condolences to his family and all who knew him as well.

Jim asked me one time to add a recommendation to his LinkedIn. In that recommendation I said, "...Jim Buchmiller’s greatest asset is his heart. He is, without a doubt, one of the kindest, most sincere people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Jim is the type of man that people follow not because they have to, but because they want to. His compassion and desire to help others spreads through his organization from the very top to the very bottom, and knowing that he sincerely cares about those around him endears his employees to him even more."
Jim was truly one of the most beautiful people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and with his passing, the world has lost a true asset.

I’m still processing the passing of one of the best managers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working for. Managers are a dime a dozen. Good managers are more rare. Great managers are like great teachers; you remember them for a lifetime. Great managers, like great teachers make you think in new ways and make you grow personally. That was Jim Buchmiller for me. He stepped in and took over our team when we were probably floundering the most. Jim made us a cohesive team. One of the smartest guys I’ve ever worked for, but completely approachable. Rest In Peace, Jim. I’ll miss you tremendously.

My deepest sympathy to the family. He was always talking about his kids and his wife would come to the office with him and sit in his office and do needlework.
Jim was a great co-worker and friend. He always had a smile. He would stop by my desk daily to tell a joke or see how I was doing. He was a great mentor and always encouraged me. I will miss him terribly.

I got to work with Jim here in Utah at Academy Mortgage. He was a fun person to work with. Though it was only for a few months before you folks moved to Washington it was a great time getting to know Jim. The last time I saw Jim was actually in Yelm at church. I was helping my sister with the loss of her husband. We stayed for Church and right after Sacrament here come Jim down the isle and we were very surprised to see each other. It was a great seeing him again. At least we know we will see him again.

I was a missionary from 2013 to 2015, and I had the opportunity to be accounted with Brother Buchmiller, with whom I worked to help others to come unto Christ. He was friendly with me and he showed me love while I was far away from France and my family. I am sorry to head about his passing away. I send good thoughts to all his family, my prayers and my love for this great man! I have no doubt that he was called back to our heavenly father to work on the other side of the veil, where he is in peace at the right hand of God.
I love him and I will miss him.

Jim sure would light up a room with his presence! His smile would brighten your day, his encouragement would lift you up on the worst of days, his laugh was so contagious, his knowledge of the gospel would keep you wanting more, and his love and friendship were priceless. He is immensely loved by our entire family, and the loss of his earthly presence is devastating. He did such great work here on earth, I know there is even greater work for him in Heaven. To know Jim, you felt the true love of christ, it poured from his very soul, to all those around him. His smile was always brighter when he talked about his family, especially when he talked about Jeannine. I'll always remember his childlike excitement when he was having fun. He sure loved the youth, and would always make time for our children. He was an exceptional role model for all of us, and we will never forget what we learned from him. We love you, Jim! Till we meet again!
