Obituary of Winnie Willene Comer

Winnie Willene Comer, 90, passed away due to lung cancer on May 30, 2019, at her home in Elma, Washington. She was born April 22, 1929 to James and Orpha Hodges in Hagarville, Arkansas.  She grew up in Missouri, graduating in 1948 from East Prairie High School in East Prairie, Missouri.

 

Winnie married Willard Comer on July 11, 1949 in Osceola, Arkansas, and the couple moved that year to McCleary, Washington for five years, before settling in Elma where Winnie lived for 65 years.  Her beloved Willard passed away September 12, 2011.

 

She worked for Rainier National Bank more than 26 years, retiring in 1988.

 

Winnie loved gardening, puzzles, casinos, fishing, and being snowbirds, heading south in their RV.  Most of all, she loved being with her family.

 

She is survived by her son, Danny Comer (wife, Evie) of McCleary; grandson, Kyle Comer (wife, Carri) of McCleary; three great grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, and Luke; and sisters, Louise Tibbets of Olympia, Washington, and Peggy Prowse of Lacey, Washington.  She is predeceased by her parents; sisters, Kathleen Hasbrouck, and Dortha Jean Metheny; and brother, James Hodges.

 

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at McCleary Cemetery.
