Obituary of Julia Ata

Julia Ata, 35 years old, was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She grew up on the mountains of Tafeta, American Samoa, where she enjoyed a meaningful childhood.  There, she cultivated a generous and loving spirit toward all people, which she continued to demonstrate in all encounters throughout her life.  She moved to the United States in 2000 and settled in Lacey, Washington, where she had her beautiful daughter.

Julia was diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2005 and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (TTP), a rare blood disorder, in December of 2016. Julia ran out of medical options before she ran out of hope and fight.

Julia was a thoughtful, intelligent, compassionate, reflective and hard working woman. She was greatly loved and adored by family and friends. Her easy temperament enabled her to gather and nurture countless deep connections. Her gracious intellect taught and inspired all who knew her, and she enriched their lives.  Those who were touched by Julia will miss her unconditional acceptance, inquisitive wisdom, and gentle smile.

Julia leaves in sorrow her parents, Sio Ata and Leitu Ata; sisters and one and only brother, whom she adored, Amialelei, Rachel, Ata, Muana, Litia, and Margaret Ata. Also heartbroken are her loving aunties, uncles, cousins from all over the world, including all the members of the Samoan Adult Religion Class, the Lacey 3rd Ward in Lacey, Washington, and especially her daughter, Angie Ata.

We will always cherish each personal memory with Julia and forever carry a piece of her precious soul. Please share your memories on the Condolences portion of this website.

Julia’s favorite scripture was Alma 37:37 – “Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.”

Her viewing will be on April 18, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9134 4th Ave. NE, Lacey, WA 98516, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Yelm Cemetery, 11540 Cemetary Rd. SE, Yelm, Washington 98597.  All are invited to return to the church for a memorial luncheon after the graveside service,
