Obituary of Marvin Thomas O'Brien

Marvin Thomas “Tom” O’Brien, 74, passed away due to a brief, unexpected illness on February 25, 2019 in Olympia, Washington. He was born July 5, 1944 to Phyllis and Larry O’Brien in Olympia. Tom graduated high school from Olympia High School and attended Centralia College and The Evergreen State College where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. He married Sharon on September 6, 1966.

 

Tom served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. Over the years, he was an accountant for various companies and retired working for the State of Washington. Tom has been a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, and has served multiple years as Grand Worshipful Master. He also belonged to Scottish Rite Valley of Olympia and Knights of St. Andrews; St. Alban Conclave Red Cross Constantine; York Rite Royal Arch Chapter 44, Alfa Council No. 20 of Royal and Select Masters, and DeMolai Commandery No. 6 Knights Templar; and Afifi Shrine Temple. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family. Tom was always cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and school activities. 

 

He is survived by his son, Sean O’Brien; daughters, Shannon Jackson and Kimberly Bauer of Tumwater, Washington; grandchildren, Brandon O’Brien, Alexis Freeto, Jackson Bauer, Haley Turner, Ava Bauer and Lily Bauer; great grandchild, Braxton Freeto; sisters, Jeri, Linda, and Kathy; and brother, Tim. He was reunited with Sharon, his wife of 52 years, at the gates of heaven.
