Obituary of Shirley M. Harstad

Shirley M. Harstad, 86, passed away February 20, 2019 in DuPont, Washington, where she lived the past three and a half years.  She also lived in Jubilee (Lacey – 2005-2015) and Tanglewilde (Olympia – 1982-2005).

 

Shirley was born May 2, 1932 to Arthur and Martha (Buechler) Schumacher in Bowdle, South Dakota.  She graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and married Kenneth Harstad on July 30, 1954 in Waco, Texas.  As a military wife and homemaker, she loved sewing, needlepointing, counted cross stitching, crocheting, quilting, rug braiding and tole painting. She was fun-loving, charismatic, and a member of the Lutheran church.

 

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lynn and (Wes) Beckmann; two grandchildren, Lauren and (Lee) Savage and Grant Beckmann; two great grandchildren, Mariana and Calista Savage; brothers, DeWane and Dean Schumacher of California; and sister Margie Erardi of California.  Her husband predeceased her.

 

Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019, 1:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Room at Patriot’s Landing, 1600 Marshall Circle, DuPont, WA 98327.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
