Obituary of Ronald Paul Egan

Ronald Paul Egan, 70, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Olympia, Washington, on February 12, 2019. He was born May 17, 1948 to Ellis R. and Genevieve B. Egan in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he lived until he was seven. He also lived in Ashland, Oregon from 1955 to 1958, and then moved to Olympia where he resided for 60 years.

Ron graduated from Olympia High School in 1966, and attended Centralia Community College. He served in the National Guard and Army Reserves from 1967 to 1980. He married Valerie K. Markoff on March 27, 1971 in Olympia. Professionally, Ron worked for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, retiring in 2001 after 30 years of service.

Ron was witty, warm, kind, genuine, empathetic, personable, easygoing, smart, dependable, and selfless, giving generously of his time. He was a proud Irishman, and loyal husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.

Ron loved life! He enjoyed softball, golf, travels to Hawaii and Arizona, and fishing. He was dedicated to daily gym workouts, and sharing time and activities with his granddaughters, family, and friends. He was also fond of visiting the casino. In his earlier years, Ron had fun coaching little league baseball for his son’s teams. Ron was a huge Mariners, Seahawks and Huskies fan, and was a “collector” of anything and everything. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Ron is gone too soon and will be deeply missed by all of his beloved family and friends. He will live forever in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie Egan; son, Paul Egan, (wife Hollie) of Snoqualmie, Washington, granddaughters, Makyla and Kenley, and grand dog Mason; daughter, Amy Darilek, (husband Ron) of Rochester, Washington, and granddaughters, Sarah and Julie; brother, Richard Egan, (wife Becky) of Danville, California, and nephews, Jackson, Wyatt and Griffin, sister-in-law Vicki Wilson, (husband Steve) of Shelton, Washington; brother-in-law Jeff Markoff  (wife Alicia), of Olympia, Washington, and niece and nephew, Josie and Clay; and sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Gunnarson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was predeceased by his mother, Genevieve Egan; father, Ellis Egan; stepmother, Patricia Egan; and half-brother, Richard Gunnarson.
