Obituary of Dorothy Grace Anderson

Dorothy Anderson passed away quietly and gently in her sleep early December 30, 2018, in Centralia, Washington.  She had just turned 91.

 

Dorothy was born in Montana on December 20, 1927 to Nathan and Florence McCroskey.  Dorothy was the firstborn, with Bertrum and Alice following later.  Many wonderful memories were made, and later shared, about her childhood in Anaconda, Montana.

 

Upon graduating high school, Dorothy went to Nebraska to pursue a teaching degree.  Before she finished, her cousin told her about a small mill town in Idaho that was looking for teachers.  They would hire her even if her degree was not complete, as long as she finished it up.

 

This is how Dorothy came to Potlach, Idaho, and made it her true home.  She met and fell in love with Sherrel Anderson.  After they were married, they made their home on the family farm where Sherrel harvested wheat and Dorothy continued to enjoy teaching in Potlatch for many years.

 

When they both retired, time was split between Potlatch and their home in Arizona or traveling to visit their daughter and grandsons.  The last few years were spent in the Olympia, Washington area so they could be closer to their daughter.

 

Dorothy and Sherrel had celebrated their 64^th wedding anniversary before Sherrel passed away in 2016.  Dorothy missed him terribly, but always knew they would be reunited in heave.

 

Dorothy leaves behind daughter, Sue (Sam); grandson, Andy (Stacy) Dial, and great-grandson, Tyler Dial.

 

Services for both Dorothy and Sherrel will take place at a later date in Potlatch, Idaho.  Memorial donations may be given to either the Potlatch Historical Society, PO Box 5, Potlatch, ID 83855, or the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, PO Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.  Both were close to Dorothy’s heart.
