Obituary of Velda Pauline Hickey
Velda Pauline “Lucy” Hickey, 72, died of cancer on December 5, 2018 in Lacey, Washington. She was born July 1, 1946 to Bonnie and Isaac Prather in Olympia, Washington, where she later graduated from Olympia High School in 1964, and married Daniel Huber in 1969. On April 29, 1977, she married Terrence Hickey in Olympia.
Professionally, she worked as the In-School Suspension Supervisor at Tenino High School from 1985 to 2010. She resided in Tenino, Washington for more than 32 years.
Lucy was a happy, loving, outgoing person. She sang “Honey, I’m home!” at every restaurant or public gathering. She hugged everyone, and signed “Love and Hugs, Lucy” to every letter and online post. She was a great encourager and protector of kids and loved ones.
She loved cheering at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and chaperoning high school dances. She enjoyed reading, writing letters to out-of-state relatives and international friends, singing, and dancing.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Terrence Hickey; son, Steven Hickey (Erin); daughters, Ruth Willis (Shawn) and Teri Chang (Seong Hun); six grandchildren; and sisters, Karen Kendrick and Dianne Trask (Anthony). She was predeceased by her parents; son, James Huber; sister, Annette Sullivan; and brothers, James and Stephen Prather.
A celebration of life will be held January 12, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army at https://northwest.salvationarmy.org/.
