Landing in the Aspinwall neighborhood with the Lankows has created many great memories with much laughter. From learning new 2-letter words while playing Quidler to boat rescues on Eld Inlet, there was as never a dull moment. We loved this man and will miss him dearly.

Dear Sue,
I'm so so very sorry to learn of Dick's passing. He was such a delightful person, and I know you two had a very special relationship. Wes & I met with Dick before Wes had his own stem cell transplant, and we so appreciated Dick's time and candor about that process. Unfortunately, cancer is a world none of us wanted to be a part of. My heart goes out to you as I know only too well the heartbreak of losing our guys. If I can help or just be a soft shoulder one day for coffee or a glass of wine, I'm here. Hugs to you and all the family.
Love,
Jodi

Years ago, our sons were attending the Air Force Acadamy and our families became bigger with Honor.
When Family weekend came, we all shared time together. Even went rafting down the water and many rocks. I still remember all the smiles. I will be saying prayers for everyone. Y’all in my heart, Many Love

I had the pleasure of sharing a Sunday afternoon of blues music and a few brews in the mountains of Utah with Dick. We chatted over several hours about everything under the sun. He has a way of sucking you into the most engaging conversations effortlessly. His enthusiasm for life burst out of him through his laugh. He will be missed, I am praying for the Lankows all my love. I had the high pleasure of being Dick's golfing partner in our Mid Washington Senior tournaments over the past three years. Whether we won or lost was less relevant than the friendship and laughter I enjoyed when traveling to and from our next golfing outing. Dick was a master of story telling and his love for golf, boating, traveling, and all our local sporting teams was wrapped up in his stories. Hs greatest love was for Sue and his children, of whom he was very, very proud of. Even when he wasn't feeling well, he always carried a smile and could drive the ball a mile (although not always straight). Unfortunately Donna and I cannot attend Dick's funeral as we will be out of state. Our sympathy to Sue and the family. I will dearly miss him, but I know we will meet again and I'm bringing my clubs.

Some of my best memories of Dick were on the golf course. He would say it is not about winning but the time spent together. Of course after he beat me once it was about winning. I loved his competitive but loving personality. As I told Sue I will miss my friend but I will never forget him. Go Huskies!

I had the highest honor and privilege to meet Big Dick Lankow while I was stationed overseas with his son, Andrew Lankow. I had graduated from the Air Force Academy with Andrew in the same class, meaning that our families had undoubtedly intertwined several times during our Academy careers prior to an official meeting. However, what made my first impression with Dick so lasting was the fact that when I did meet him, It felt like I had known him for years. The way he told stories, got the whole room involved, and would casually sip on his wine for dramatic effect while he held the room salivating for more details was nothing short of priceless. With Dick there was no foreplay, there was never a hesitation from his end to let you into his circle of trust, he really did know how to make you feel like the most important person in the room.
I don’t know much about life just yet, but I do know that truly beautiful people are few and far between, and exceptional people come around once in a lifetime. Dick was my glimpse at the exceptional. He never had to prove it to me through a statement, through a letter, or even a long drawn out story of selling insurance on the road. He did it with his actions and he did it every day with the same consistency as the sunrise. He loved his neighbors and showed them how much people meant to him through his actions. A little over three years ago, I lost my mother to the battle of cancer; it was while we were stationed in Italy and I made the flight back to Boise, Idaho to spend the last beautiful days with my firecracker of a mother and to eventually make the arrangements once she passed away. At the time, Andrew was home on Leave to just spend time with his parents, and upon hearing the news they made the drive from Olympia, Washington to Idaho for the service. No questions asked, no heartfelt letter, no flowers at the alter, but rather a warm embrace from the most loving family I have ever known. Dick Lankow knew how to make statements with his actions, and he knew how to share his love, and he did often and did so with grace.
Beyond Dick’s own personal testimony, he raised an amazing family. His love and his passion for life are just as alive in his beautiful wife Sue as anywhere. It’s easy to see why a man like Dick would fall in love with such a wonderful woman whose selflessness, commitment, and devotion to her family were second to none. Together they raised a high caliber family of warriors with whom I have had the pleasure to spend a great deal of time. To my friend Andrew, the torch is now yours. Dick has left it in your steady and prepared hand. The world is a tough place, and there’s not one day that goes by that I don’t think about you, your fierce competitive edge, your unmatched intellect, or your passion for life. Dick's story now becomes your story. His life is now carried on through you, and I’m so blessed that Dick took the time to raise such fine young man that I can call my friend.
To the Lankows - I love you all and I am absolutely with you and here for you.
To Dick - rest easy ya son of a gun, keep a few cold ones on reserve until we see you again, and go Hawks.
Konsy
