I love that smile! It's so difficult to verbalize the feelings and memories that Norm's smile evokes. He loved people, he loved to talk to people, he loved to listen to people, and his enjoyment made people feel better. He had a warmth that made people seek him out. I often stopped by the book store just to say "hi" because I always left feeling happier than when I came in. He giggled, and he was enthusiastic about things like scouting, and seminary, and temple trips. I will never forget the trips to the Seattle temple, driving in caravan with CB's to talk to each other from van to van. "Stormin' Norman" was his "handle."
I worked with (for) Norm at the book store for a couple of years. It wasn't work; Norm made it fun.
Heaven is now so much a better place with that infectious smile, listening ear, and enjoyable laugh to add brightness to the light that is already there.

Brother Smith was one of the important figures in my developmental years. He was always kind to me, both as my seminary teacher and as the father of two of my good friends. I know his dedication to such a demanding and challenging calling contributed to the development of my testimony. He was my mother’s first employer after many years as a stay-at-home mom, and he made it such a positive experience for her to re-enter the workforce. I’m so grateful for his friendship to all my family over the years.

What a great Man and a mentor. Wonderfully friendly, helpful, and loving. A great teacher through his example and in doing. Surely beloved of our Heavenly Father!

We adored Norm, and have missed the presence of the Smith Family since they left Eugene to be with family in Washington. So many sweet memories....so many good times together. Love and peace to all of you. Wish we could be there tomorrow.

November 2006 Norm and Sylvia Smith in Beijing, China. We were stationed in southern China and had no winter clothing with us. It was cold so we layered about every piece of clothing we had brought with us.

My best wishes to the family of Norman Smith, who was one of my high school classmates at Preston (Idaho) High School. He was a very personable and fun person to be around. My regret is that I have not kept in touch with Norman. I can't imagine my high school days without good fellow students and teachers like we had at Preston High. My condolences and very best wishes to his family.
Sincerely, Douglas D. Palmer, Draper, Utah
