Obituary of Gerald D. Probst

Gerald D. Probst, 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 23, 2018 in Olympia, Washington, where he resided for 49 years.  He was born June 24, 1935 in Great Falls, Montana.

 

Gerald graduated from Seattle’s Garfield High School in 1953, Western Washington University with a BA in Geography in 1960, and The Evergreen State College with a Master’s in Public Administration in 1985. He married Carrol Gingrich on August 20, 1960 in Everett, Washington. 

 

Gerald served in the U.S. Marine Corps, active duty from 1954 to 1956, and the reserves from 1956 to 1964, in Seattle, and in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1964 to 1968. Throughout his career, he worked as an Urban Planner for King County, Washington, the City of San Diego, California, and most recently retired from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in Olympia. He also spent time as the Planning Director for the City of Roseville, California.  After retirement, he worked on several natural disaster deployments for the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

 

Gerald loved traveling, playing racquetball, going to the horse races, spending time with family, and attending grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

 

He is survived by his wife, Carrol Probst; daughters, Janelle Probst and Jennifer Carrougher; three grandchildren; and sister, Judy Albertson.
