Obituary of Susan Jane Norris-Gosser

Susan Jane Norris-Gosser died peacefully in her home on October 6, 2018.  She was born in McMinnville, Oregon on April 13, 1927 to Cecil W. and Bernice Luhetta (Porter) Stuller.  She was the youngest of six children.  Susan attended Lafayette School in Lafayette, Oregon from first grade through her sophomore year in high school.  As the baby sister, she was fortunate to attend Lafayette School along with three of her older brothers, Gil, Chuck and John.  The family moved to Salem, Oregon after her sophomore year and she graduated from Salem High School in 1945.  She attended Willamette University as a music major in piano and voice.

Susan married Frank Norris in 1947 and they relocated to Olympia, Washington.  They had two children, a daughter and a son.  Frank passed away in 1981.  Even though life brought her to Washington, in her heart, she was always an Oregon girl.

Susan worked at Seafirst Bank (now Bank of America).  She began as a teller and, at the time of her retirement in the early 1980s, she was the teller supervisor.  She enjoyed helping people and made friendships there that have lasted through the years.

After nearly a decade of being single, Susan met and married Larry Gosser.  They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their property on Harstine Island.  Up until Larry’s death in 2001, they spent most of their winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they soaked up the sunshine and Susan could pick oranges in her back yard.

Susan worshipped at Calvary Chapel in Yelm and always felt loved and welcome there.

In her later years, Susan enjoyed spending time at her home in Jubilee, watching the variety of birds that gathered at her bird feeders on her back porch.  Her home became the gathering place for birthdays and other family celebrations.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Morrison, and her husband, Pat; her son, Randy, and his wife, Joyce; seven grandchildren, Keith Morrison, Joe Morrison, Brian Morrison, John Morrison, Michael Norris, Jennifer (Norris) Virivong and Elizabeth (Norris) Berlanga; and nine (and counting) great-grandchildren, Faith, Amelia, Cruz, Isra, Easton, Jahn Luis, Hadley, Asher and Crew.  Always the animal lover, she leaves behind her beloved cats, Felix and Tippy.

Susan’s family is very thankful for the love, prayers, and support we have received from everyone as we adjust to our life without her.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 22, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at South Sound Manor, 445 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.
