Obituary of Jacob Darrell Drewry

Jacob Darrell Drewry, 33, of Anchorage, Alaska, died August 16, 2018, after a long, hard fought battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

He was born March 14, 1985 in Olympia, Washington to Darrell and Anna Lee Drewry.  Jake was a graduate of Tumwater High School and received his degree in Electronics from ITT Technical Institute.

Jake loved fixing cars, shooting guns, and spending time with his dogs, Chief, Shadow, and Butterball.  He helped countless people with their vehicles and became the “go to” guy at AutoZone for people with car trouble.  Jake was also an avid four-wheel enthusiast who loved to drive across Capital Forest in his prized Bronco, Trogdor.

Jake started a nonprofit organization in 2010 called Return to Life for others in the community who were fighting Cystic Fibrosis.  Eight years later, the organization has grown into Cystic Fibrosis Northwest, supporting patients across the Northwest.

He was married on November 1, 2008, to Mary Azeltine. On October 18, 2014, they became the proud parents of Gwendolyn Drewry.  Jake loved being a dad and instilled a love of trucks in his daughter.

Jake gave to so many people without any expectation of something in return.  He shared his time and knowledge of cars to anyone who needed help.  Even in death, Jake gave the gift of sight to two people in need.

Jake is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Gwendolyn; his parents, Darrell and Anna Lee; his brother, Darrick; his paternal grandmother, Betty Drewry; countless aunts, uncles, cousins; and extended family of firefighters and EMTs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations go to Cystic Fibrosis Northwest at http://cfnorthwest.org. Another option for donations is an account being established to benefit Jake and Mary’s daughter Gwendolyn. Information about this will be available at the service.
