Hi Cindy,
Was just wondering how your mom was doing and saw this obituary for your husband last year. I’m so sorry to hear of his loss. What a full and wonderful life he had, so many contributions. Can only imagine how hard it was to lose him under such an expected situation. Not sure if you knew but that is how Wayne died as well. Please pass along my well wishes and love to your mom! Blessings to you.
Best Regards.

I worked with John for a number of years at the Attorney General's office. I was the lead lawyer for the trial of the State's Tobacco case, and thus John and I worked closely as we fast-tracked our case to trial and to the national settlement that resulted. John's leadership, friendship, patience, guidance, and calming presence from the development of the case through the trial made our jobs easier. He was a kind and gentle man. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing.

Eulogy from Professor Xu Dazhen, Former dean of Pudong business administration college, Shanghai Maritime University:
I am very sad when I heard John left us, I clearly remember when we worked together ten years ago in the joint teaching program; he is a man of great teaching and kindness to students; he is a man of integrity,be strict in doing things but affable. He is always good at helping others; every summer, he invites those students from Shanghai to visit his home and to spend a lot of happy time together. I still remember that we visited Nanjing together; as a man who love peace, he shows a good example of China-US friendship. Unfortunately, John left us prematurely, we will always remember him. At this difficult moment, please convey my condolences to Cindy and all John's family members.
Everything in heaven is beautiful, God bless him.

I have not seen John for many years and lost track of his life. It seems that he lived it very well and was the equivalent of a rock star as a community member and volunteer. Thank you for the descriptive memorial article (obituary). We are so sorry for his loss to your family and ours from Clover Park High School Class of 1964.

He was an exceptional friend. He was very energetic, knowledgeable and had a kind soul.As our host family, he had spend some memorable time talking and explaining ideas with us about our different culture ,patiently and rationally. He took us to go hiking and visit Seattle city center. When holidays came, he invited us to his house and entertained with yammy food. Such wonderful moments are unforgettable. I played football with John on the Clover Park varsity team in 1964. I have a picture from the Clover leaves high school paper of John #73 on the team just before we played the Highline high school and tied for third place that year in the standings. John was the sports editor for the school paper and I have most all of the school papers from that year which I scanned into digital j-peg format on CDs and shared with the 50 year reunion committee in 2014. I remember John very distinctly from high school and wish to convey my sincere condolences to your family regarding his untimely passing. John made a positive difference to people whose lives he touched in this world and is remembered in their hearts and minds forever. N8f33

I am so sorry to learn of this loss. What a tremendous loss his passing is. John was such a kind, good man. He was a very important friend to me. He loved Chinese culture very much, he was a person who loves life. Also John was a very good teacher. He taught courses in Shanghai Maritime University for many years. We faulty and his students all respect him and love him. Wish John a peaceful life in Heaven!

We are going to miss John dearly! He had impacted many of our international students (both in the U.S. and in China). John mentored the students, assisted them with their English and in understanding the American culture. Teaching in China is not easy for anyone because of the cultural differences, John would find ways to get students engaged and to bridge the cultural gap. He took time to learn Chinese. His Chinese was so good that he didn't need a guide or an interpreter when he and Cindy travelled in China. Every summer he would host students and faculty from the Chinese universities for a relaxing afternoon at his house! John exemplified a life lived fully and well!

I met John when I began working at the AGO, DNR Division in January of 1992. I was assisting AAG Glenn Harvey on a complex litigation case and John came in to discuss the case with Glenn. We were first introduced to each other during that brief meeting. My impression of John was that he was a highly intelligent gentleman, quiet & reserved. He was always kind to me whenever our paths crossed at the AGO. I am so very sorry to hear of his death. He was much too young to leave us. I send my heartfelt condolences to each and every one of his family members. The Lord has gained another great soul.

I just cannot believe John left us! We were just at him home! John Hough has been to Poineer College of Inner Mongolia University three times. He taught “business law” , He was respected and loved by the students due to his rigorous scholarship and his grandfatherly kindness.
We are so sad to lose a respectable teacher for the students, and a learning model for the faculty, and a fatherly friend for myself.
It’s a huge loss for us to lose a teacher, a friend. Wish him a happy and peaceful life in Heaven!
