Obituary of Richard James Vandervort

Richard James Vandervort, 67, passed away June 28, 2018 in Bucoda, Washington.  He was born August 14, 1950 to William J. and Maratha J. (Erickson) Vandervort in Aberdeen, Washington.  Over the years, he also lived in Alaska, Oregon, and the Washington cities of Clearwater and Centralia.

 

Richard attended high school in Creswell, Oregon, but did not receive his GED until he was 40 years old.  He attended Grays Harbor College for welding.  Richard married Linda Baker on March 21, 1970 in Elma, Washington. He loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids.

 

Most of his life, Richard worked as a logger.  He spent years with Fred B. Moe Logging and several other logging companies. He was extremely knowledgeable about the industry and was considered as a logging “God.”

 

He enjoyed baseball, football, crabbing and clamming, hunting, fishing, and boating.

 

Richard is survived by his wife, Linda Vandervort of Bucoda; sons, Johnny (Sherly) Vandervort and Robert (Buh, Monsa) Aldroitt; daughters, Becky (Scott) Tobeck and Katie (Charles) Lehman; 21 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, John (Debbie) Vandervort of Centralia, and Larry (Susie) Vandervort of Aberdeen; and sister, Janic (Ron) Clenments of Oregon.  He was predeceased by his parents, William and Maratha Vandervort; grandparents, Mary and Howard Best; sister, Marianne Vandervort, son, Tommy Vandervort; grandson, Charlie Lehman; and brother, Robert Vandevort.
