Obituary of Theodore Edward Andrews

Dr. Theodore Edward “Ted” Andrews was born to the late Theodore Andrews and Elizabeth Higgins Andrews on May 2, 1932. He departed this life on November 11, 2013. Ted served as a teacher, an assistant professor, and over 20 years in professional education, including time with the New Your State Education Department, private consultation work, and with the Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Office in Olympia, WA. He retired on December 31, 1998. Since that time, he taught courses for Southern Illinois University on military bases, prepared several reports for the U.S. Department of Education, and served as the Coordinator for the WSCC Conferences beginning in 2001 through 2013. Early in his career, Ted pursued a career in journalism as a reporter for The Evening Times, Little Falls, NY, the Latham-Colonie News, and the Albany Times Union, Albany, NY. Ted received his BA from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY, and his MA and Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Ted had many interests, including traveling, sports, movies, reading, television, and spending time with his family and friends. Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine. He is survived by his brother, Richard (wife Patricia); his two daughters, Barbara (fiancée, Steve) and Laura (husband John); three grandchildren, Brian (wife, Taylor), Shannon, and Neal (wife, Kristy); and two great grandchildren, Daniel and Blake. His survivors also include cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout the country. Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend—Ted will be missed by all, including his beloved dog, Patty. Not only did Ted raise his two daughters on his own after his wife passed away in 1972, he also took in Barbara and her three children in 1986. Ted was a daily part of Brian’s, Shannon’s, and Neal’s lives as they were growing-up. He continued being there when his grandsons, Daniel and Blake, were born. We can never thank him enough for all he has done for the family. Remembrances may be made to Global Camps Africa. This was a favorite charity of Ted’s. Global Camps Africa changes the lives of South Africa’s vulnerable children and youth by providing HIV/AIDS prevention education and training through high-impact residential and day camp experiences and continuing education, equipping young people with the life skills that will support them in becoming safe and productive adults who have hope for the future.
