Obituary of Edward Monroe Zimmerman

Edward Monroe Zimmerman, Jr., born January 2, 1922 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Edward and Edith (Mizner) Zimmerman, passed away July 19, 2014 in Tumwater, Washington at the age of 92. Raised and educated in Indiana, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, serving before and during World War II in the 151st Infantry Regimental Combat Team. Ed was one of the original non-commissioned officers in organizing the Army’s 2nd Ranger Battalion in 1943. He also served in the 485th Military Police Escort Company. He was a member of the Tumwater American Legion Post 166. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Ed married Marcia Ella Hughes on June 4, 1944 at Greencastle, Indiana. They moved to the state of Washington in October 1944. He worked for Puget Sound Power and Light Co. for 21 years and for Bonneville Power Administration for over 20 years, before retiring in 1986. In addition to living in Indiana, Ed and Marcia lived in the Seattle, Washington area, and the Washington cities of Cle Elum, Sunnyside and Olympia. Ed is survived by his daughter, Nancy E. Zimmerman Smith; daughter-in-law, Gail L. Andersen Zimmerman; grandsons, Erik Allen Foraker and Nathan Zimmerman; great grandchildren, Chad, Stephanie and Michael; and three great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Steven E. Zimmerman (1993); wife, Marcia (2002); and son-in-law, Lyle E. Smith (2008). Please leave memories of Ed or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
