Daniel Lee Broumley

Daniel Lee Broumley was born on September 2, 1946, to William Clyde Broumley and Georgianne Holloway in Bastrop County, Texas.  He passed away December 16, 2021, in Lacey, Washington.  As a young child, Daniel moved around a lot while his father was in the military. 

In June 1965, Daniel graduated from Tumwater High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1965.  While in the Navy, Daniel earned the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commission Ribbon Bars, Vietnam Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. 

In 1968, Daniel married Kathleen Cook (div. 1994). He married JoNell Awtrey in 1995.  In 1978, Daniel moved his family to Logan, Utah, to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science and Biometerology, finishing in 1982. They lived in Kansas for a year, then moved back to Washington State, where he worked in Washington Department of Correction, McNeil Island, running the food farmland, then to Western State Hospital as an Air Quality Control/Industrial Hygienist, where he was known as the “Batman” for his work with the bat colonies throughout the state.  He retired in late 2016.  

Daniel’s hobbies were fishing, photography, rock collecting, and kite flying.

He is survived by his wife, JoNell; sons, Neil (Tina) Broumley, and Aaron (Jennifer) Broumley; grandchildren, Garrett, Grady, Gavin, AJ, Haden, Keleen, Orianna, Aliyha, and Emma; brother, Roy (Judy) Broumley; and sisters, Lynn (Hank) Johnson and Sue Broumley. 

A small service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9341 4th Ave. NE, Olympia, WA 98506.
